Liverpool remain confident to finalise Florian Wirtz deal

Liverpool are optimistic of agreeing a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of Florian Wirtz, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds made an offer worth €130million (£109million) to sign Wirtz from Leverkusen last week. The Germany international has emerged as a key target and is reportedly keen on making the move to Anfield.

Erik ten Hag’s side are yet to turn down the huge offer as both clubs look to reach an agreement in the coming days.

The 22-year-old has decided to leave the Bundesliga and is poised to join the Premier League champions in a club-record transfer.

Providing the latest update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Wirtz, transfer expert Romano posted on X: “Liverpool remain confident to finalize Florian Wirtz deal as new round of talks has been scheduled this week.

“Club optimistic to get the agreement sealed with Bayer Leverkusen soon.”

Wirtz has been a standout performer for Bayer Leverkusen in recent seasons, netting 16 goals and providing 15 assists last season.

Having established himself as a key figure for both club and country, he impressed notably at Euro 2024.

After five years at Leverkusen, where he played a vital role in their Bundesliga campaign during the 2023/24 season, the Germany international is eager for a new challenge.

Bayern Munich had pursued the midfielder for nearly two years and were confident he preferred a move to Munich.

However, Wirtz’s father and agent, Hans-Joachim, informed Bayern’s leadership that the young talent would be heading elsewhere.

Bayern president Hainer declared: “Max Eberl [sporting director] informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool.”
