Luka Modric seals AC Milan transfer on one-year deal

Luka Modric has finalized his transfer to AC Milan on a one-year contract with an option to extend until 2027, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Croatian midfielder, who left Real Madrid after his contract expired this summer, is set to wear the No. 14 jersey for the Italian giants in the upcoming season.
After a remarkable 13-year tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 39-year-old midfielder fulfilled his May promise to depart Real Madrid following the Club World Cup in the United States.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner amassed 28 trophies—including six Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns—with Madrid since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, establishing him as the club’s most decorated player.
He scored 43 goals in 597 games at Real, and his final match was their 4-0 semi-final defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup last week.
Modric is keen to play at next year’s World Cup, which takes place in Canada, Mexico, and the US.

Milan endured a lackluster 2024/25 season, finishing eighth in Serie A and failing to secure a European qualification spot.
Speaking to Milan’s social media, externally, he said he was very happy “to be starting a new chapter” of his career, said Modric.
Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri, who has returned for a second stint as Milan boss after replacing Sergio Conceicao, called Modric an “extraordinary player” when confirming the Croatia captain would join earlier this month.

Meanwhile, according to TeamTalk sources, Milan have shown keen interest in Madrid left-back Fran Garcia, who impressed by playing in every match at the FIFA Club World Cup. However, Real Madrid are poised to sign Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras as another left-back option.
Xabi Alonso would have three left-backs at the Bernabeu, including Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy. With Mendy currently sidelined by injury, Garcia could be a potential candidate for a sale to generate funds.
