Manchester City have completed the signing of Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, with the forward passing his medical and putting pen to paper on Thursday—after the club activated his £65m release clause, available only during the first 10 days of January.

According to journalist David Ornstein, City are set to pay £62.5 million upfront, with £1.5 million add-ons, and 10% of future sale profit to Bournemouth.

Semenyo played his last game for Bournemouth on Wednesday night, helping the Cherries to a 3-2 victory, and scoring a 95th-minute winner against Tottenham Hotspur -and on his birthday, bringing a fairytale ending to his career at the Vitality Stadium.

In what proved to be Semenyo’s final kick of the ball in Bournemouth colours after two years at the club, the forward struck a dramatic goal, ending the Cherries’ dismal 11-game winless streak.

Semenyo has now signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Pep Guardiola’s side, until 2031, and will wear the No. 42 shirt, previously worn at City by Yaya Touré.

The 26-year-old was the Premier League’s most wanted attacker after details of his release clause were revealed. For his performance in the 2024/25 season and this current campaign, his pricetag looked like a bargain for the quality player he has become.

The Ghanaian international has been Bournemouth’s standout performer, netting 10 goals in 21 appearances this season—building on an impressive 13-goal haul across 42 games last campaign.

Before putting pen to paper on his long-term contract with the Cityzens, he attracted intense interest from some of the Premier League’s elite clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Blues, however, launched a late attempt to hijack Man City’s deal, while Manchester United were also believed to have weighed up a move.

In an official statement posted on the Man City club website, Semenyo said:

“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City.

“I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

“They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep.

He added: “I have ave so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here.

“My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that. And City are in a great position – still involved in four competitions. I really feel I can help them have a strong second half of the season.

“The Etihad is my new home. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans here and I hope to show everyone what I can do.”
