Man United boss Ruben Amorim targets signing of ‘big players’ this summer

The Portuguese coach emphasised that bringing in players with the right mentality is crucial

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed his intention to bring in several ‘big players’ this summer as part of a squad overhaul.

While Amorim believes his team is strong, he acknowledges that there are key areas that need strengthening to improve the club’s fortunes.

The Portuguese coach emphasised that bringing in players with the right mentality is crucial to making a significant impact at Old Trafford.

However, Amorim may face challenges in securing these high-profile signings.

He admitted that he does not expect players of Real Madrid’s calibre to arrive at the club, but noted that ‘big players’ will still come with a hefty price tag.

With multiple positions requiring urgent attention, United’s spending could be constrained by financial limitations.

Speaking ahead of United’s clash against Manchester City, Amorim said: “I just want to focus on our strengths and bring one or two players, big players.

“We need to focus, we are doing all the stuff to be next season so much better. In my idea, I cannot manage this thing of ‘in four years we will try something’. We need to be so much better. This is a massive club.”

Amorim’s challenging start at Old Trafford is unlikely to have convinced the Man United hierarchy to grant him full control over transfer decisions.

The Red Devils currently sit 13th in the Premier League and are on course to record their worst-ever finish in the competition.

The only remaining hope is the possibility of silverware and Champions League qualification through a successful Europa League campaign, with a crucial away tie against Lyon on Thursday.
