Ruben Amorim had a fall-out with the club bosses before his sacking

Manchester United have reportedly sacked manager Ruben Amorim following their latest 1-1 draw against Leeds United over the weekend.

Amorim sent a strong message to the United board in his post-match press conference and subsequently showed the exit door the following day.

According to Sky Sports, Amorim’s dismissal comes after an internal power struggle between him and the Old Trafford hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox.

The 40-year-old Portuguese manager’s tenure at Old Trafford lasted only 14 months since his appointment in November 2024 from Sporting CP.

In a lengthy response to his final question after Sunday’s draw, Amorim insisted he wanted to be the “manager, not the coach” and suggested he would be happy to “move on” after seeing out the remaining 18 months of his contract.

In a statement, Man United confirmed “the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”

Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher is expected to take charge of the team for theirĀ Premier LeagueĀ game againstĀ BurnleyĀ on Wednesday night.
