Manchester United lead race for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki

Manchester United are currently in pole position to sign Lyon forward Rayan Cherki ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens in June, according to the Mirror.
The 21-year-old, who is expected to cost around £20million, is being closely monitored by several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.
Cherki almost joined United’s academy during Nicky Butt’s tenure before eventually signing his first professional contract with his hometown club, Lyon.

At just 16, United recognised the French talent’s potential and, despite missing out on him back then, have continued to track his progress.
Now, they are preparing to make a move for him in the summer.
Last year, Cherki rejected an offer from French giants Paris Saint-Germain, which further endeared him to Lyon supporters, solidifying his status as a fan favourite.

However, United may have an edge in the race to sign Cherki, having made a strong impression on him when he was shown around the club’s Carrington training ground.

This could give them a head start as they look to bring in the talented attacker, who scored a last-minute equaliser in Lyon’s 2-2 Europa League draw on Thursday.
After the match, Cherki told the French media that Lyon were the better team in the first leg and expressed confidence as they prepare for the return fixture at Old Trafford.
“We were much better than them,” he told reporters.
“We know they are a good team, but we have never been afraid of them and we will never be afraid of them.
“Second leg – we will go there to attack.”
