Modric reportedly aims to stay at Real Madrid for one more year

Luka Modric Madrid Real exxtension contract

Real Madrid captain Luka Modric is reportedly eyeing a one-year contract extension in Spain as his contract expires with Los Blancos this summer.

Modric joined Madrid in the summer of 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and has since entrenched himself as one of the world’s best midfielders. Over the last few years at Madrid, the Croatian has been afforded a yearly contract extension dependent on his seasonal performances as he nears age 40.

Last season, Modric played a key role in Madrid’s La Liga and UEFA Champions League success and should the Meringues achieve a similar feat this year, a one-year contract extension could be on the cards for the Croatian.

In 13 seasons, Luka Modric has made 579 official appearances for Real across all competitions, scoring 30 times while providing 58 assists. He is the oldest player to feature for Real (39 years and 40 days), breaking the record originally held by the legendary Ferenc Puskas.

The central midfielder also has six Champions League titles to his name and 28 major trophies in total for Real Madrid.
