Nations FC defender Razak Simpson backs Ghana to qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Black Stars participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Nations FC defender Razak Simpson is optimistic that Ghana will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars participated in the 2022 World Cup but were eliminated in the group stages. While Ghana impressed in their last World Cup appearance, subsequent tournaments have been less favourable.

A disastrous 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign in November further highlighted the team’s struggles.

Despite these setbacks, Ghana remain firmly in contention for a spot at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The Black Stars currently sit second in their qualifying group, level on nine points with group leaders Comoros.

Ahead of Ghana’s upcoming match against Chad on Friday, Razak Simpson has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to qualify.

The Nations FC defender believes there is enough promise within the squad to secure a place at the global showpiece.

“For me, we have an amazing and quality players there. It is based on tactics and everything, whatever the coaches decide,” Simpson told 3Sports.

“We are 1000 % confident we are going to qualify. We are going to put in our best, and qualify.

The Black Stars will convene in Accra on Monday, March 17 for a four-day training camp ahead of their clash against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21.

The team’s training sessions on Monday and Tuesday will be open to the public.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has named a 23-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Deputy captain and Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey returns to the squad after missing four Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last year.

Other notable inclusions are Kamaldeen Sulemana of Southampton and Jerry Afriyie of CD Lugo.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have been hit with a major injury crisis, with 12 players currently sidelined.
