Newcastle reach agreement with Man City for Nico Gonzalez

Newcastle United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Premier League rivals Manchester City for the signing of midfielder Nico Gonzalez for a fee in the region of £47 million plus £3 million in add-ons, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The reported agreement comes after the Magpies persistent search for reinforcement, following the departure of key players, including their captain, Bruno Guimaraes, who signed for the Premier League champions, Arsenal, few weeks ago.

Man City signed Nico Gonzalez from FC Porto for £50 million pounds just 18 months ago to provide cover and competition for Rodri, but after making just 26 Premier League starts, he is now set to depart and sign for the Magpies.

The Spanish international signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad Stadium under former manager, Pep Guardiola, but failed to establish himself as a starter.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is now expected to switch to the St. James Park to relaunch his career after the reported club-to-club agreement, where he will become a significant player under new manager Mathias Jaissle, after a very disappointing campaign at City.

He is expected to sign a five-year contract until 2031, as both sides work hard behind the scenes to finalize the deal, as the summer transfer window for the Premier League and EFL in England closes on Tuesday, September 1, at 11:00 PM BST.
