North Texas SC signs Ghanaian defender Aaron Essel

The deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent

North Texas SC has announced the loan acquisition of 19-year-old Ghanaian defender Aaron Essel from St. Johnstone FC for the remainder of the season.

The deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent, subject to the completion of Essel’s P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). St. Johnstone retains the option to recall Essel.

Essel brings valuable experience from Scotland’s top tier, having played 18 games for St. Johnstone.

His impressive performances in Scotland follow a successful stint with Bechem United FC in the Ghana Premier League, where he featured in 68 games over three seasons.

“Aaron is an exceptional talent with established professional and international experience,” said North Texas head coach John Gall.

“He’s a midfield dynamo who brings quality and tenacity to the pitch. We’re excited to have him on board as we push for success in the MLS NEXT Pro season.”

Essel has represented Ghana at the U20 and U23 levels, captaining the U23 side against Morocco in their most recent encounter.

His leadership skills and work ethic will be invaluable assets to North Texas SC as they vie for victory in the MLS NEXT Pro season.
