Real Madrid and Barcelona go after La Liga & Spanish Football Federation over tight fixtures

Real Madrid and Barcelona are not happy about the demanding La Liga fixtures

Real Madrid and Barcelona are equally on the same page, as they go after La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation over the tight fixture scheduling over the past weeks.

Real Madrid had openly criticised the La Liga governing body over demanding fixtures, but now, bitter rivals Barcelona have added their voice to what could be deemed “a genuine call”.

The league leaders, still competing in La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey, will face a gruelling run of matches in the coming weeks.

Regardless of their differences as two of Spain’s elite clubs, they’ve had enough of it and have had to make the governing body know about how the demands of tight fixtures affect their performance now and in the future.

On Saturday, both clubs released an official statement confirming that a formal complaint will be filed against La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation.

“FC Barcelona has already this season expressed its disagreement with the criteria set out by the Spanish Football League (LFP) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) with regards to dates and kick off times for the first team.

“We consider, as expressed on Friday by our coach to whom we give our total support and with whom we are in complete agreement, that governing bodies of Spanish Football should be more considerate with teams, such as ours, who are taking part in all three competitions in the final part of the season.

“This is not a new problem, and without making light of the difficulty of organising a fixture list with so many matches, FC Barcelona will continue to defend its interests in front of the national and international organising bodies of football so that the sporting calendar makes more sense.

“As such, FC Barcelona will make a formal complaint to the regulatory bodies of football with the aim of avoiding situations that may be to the detriment of the real stars in the world of football, the players.”

A verdict on the formal complaint is yet to be received, as Barcelona remain positive on a successful outcome of their bid.

But given that they are the second heavyweight to raise the issue in recent weeks, it would be no surprise if something was changed for the future.
