Real Madrid moved to second place on the La Liga standings after a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday afternoon at the Santiago Bernabeu, leveling rivals FC Barcelona on points.

Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr were enough to grab all three points for the hosts, who asserted their dominance in the opening 30 minutes before Pedro Diaz pulled one back for Vallecano.

The victory means Los Blancos are tied on points (57) with leaders Barcelona after the Blaugrana had their game against Osasuna postponed due to the unexpected death of first team Doctor Carles Minnaro Garcia.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be filled with confidence for the rest of the season after ending their disappointing run of only one win in five matches prior to this clash.

Up next, Los Blancos take on city rivals Atlètico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, seeking to book a place in the quarter finals of the competition.

They will face Villarreal and Leganes next as well in La Liga, hoping to continue their pursuit of a first back-to-back Spanish league title in 18 years.
