Real Madrid to honour Copa del Rey Final tomorrow

Florentino Perez

Real Madrid have officially revealed their intention to honour tomorrow’s Copa del Rey Final against arch-rivals Barcelona, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Friday.

The news comes hours after other football outlets reported that the Spanish giants were considering their withdrawal from the Copa del Rey final to be held in Seville.

The news revealed the reason why the reigning La Liga champions considered opting out of the final, reportedly being issues regarding the referee and VAR officials for the game – demanding they be changed.

Official statement from the club reads:

“Real Madrid communicates that our team has never considered giving up playing tomorrow’s final”.

“Our club understands that the unfortunate and inappropriate statements of the referees appointed for this match, made 24 hours before the final, cannot stain a sporting event of global importance that hundreds of millions of people will see and also out of respect for all the fans who plan to travel to Seville, and to all those who are already in the Andalusian capital.

“Real Madrid understands that the values of football must prevail, despite the hostility and animosity that have been evident today, once again against our club, by these referees designated for the final”

Saturday’s Copa del Rey final in Seville will be the first, while the next El Clásico will follow at Montjuic on 11 May.

Athletic Bilbao is the most recent winner of the Spanish Competition, winning it for the 24th time (second highest), followed by Madrid with 20 wins(3rd), and Barcelona, winning it the most (31).
