German FA warns Rudiger Over Copa del Rey final behaviour

Rudiger has already apologized for his actions on social media, and the DFB does not expect to impose further punishment

The German Football Association (DFB) has issued a warning to Antonio Rudiger, Real Madrid’s centre-back, over his behaviour in the Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona.

Rudiger’s display of apoplectic rage towards referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea in stoppage time of extra time was deemed “not acceptable” by DFB officials.

The incident, which saw Rudiger leap off the bench and potentially throw an object at the official, resulted in a red card and could lead to a ban of up to 12 games under La Liga rules.

DFB sporting director Rudi Voller emphasized that Rudiger, as a national player, must demonstrate class and respect in his behavior.

“Toni is a first-class player, but as a national player, he must also demonstrate class in his behavior,” Voller said.

Voller acknowledged that Rudiger is an emotional player but stressed that his behavior in this instance was unacceptable.

Rudiger has already apologized for his actions on social media, and the DFB does not expect to impose further punishment.

However, Spanish authorities are still drawing up their response, and Rudiger could face a lengthy ban if found guilty.

The incident has sparked debate about player behavior and respect for referees in football.

The DFB’s warning to Rudiger serves as a reminder of the importance of player conduct and respect for officials in football.

As a representative of the German national team, Rudiger’s behavior is under scrutiny, and the DFB is keen to emphasize the need for class and respect in his actions.

The incident could have implications for Rudiger’s future, both in terms of his club career and his international appearances.

While the DFB may not impose further punishment, the potential ban from Spanish authorities could impact Rudiger’s participation in upcoming matches.

Rudiger’s apology and willingness to discuss the incident with DFB officials may help mitigate any further consequences.
