Former Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour expresses regret over missing AFCON glory

Ghana and Bayern Munich legend, Samuel Osei Kuffour has admitted to feeling deep regret over his inability to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ghana.
Kuffour, who represented the Black Stars in five AFCON tournaments, made 54 appearances and scored six goals during his international career.
Despite his impressive achievements, the failure to secure the continental trophy remains Kuffour’s greatest disappointment.
“I never had the chance to win the AFCON and it kills me everyday,” he said in an interview with Sporty FM.
“How many great players have won that title? Is a very difficult tournament to play because we know each other.
“The strength is good, the technique is good, the understanding of the game is always the same.”
Kuffour, who burst onto the international scene at just 13 years old, helped the Ghana side win the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship.
At 17, he made his debut for the Black Stars in a match against Sierra Leone.
Kuffour also represented Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, making one appearance against Italy.
After a costly mistake in that match, which resulted in a 0–2 loss, he was dropped for the remaining group games as Ghana was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Brazil.

Kuffour enjoyed an illustrious football career, winning numerous trophies, most notably the UEFA Champions League with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
