Alfred Duncan retired from international football at age 29
Ex-Ghana international Alfred Duncan reveals retirement reason

Former Ghana international Alfred Duncan has opened up on his decision to retire from the Black Stars, claiming it was driven by the lack of ‘respect’ he received.
Duncan, who made his debut for the Black Stars in a 2016 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Mozambique, called time on his international career in 2019.
The defensive midfielder made a total of 10 appearances for the Black Stars between his debut and retirement.
Speaking to Sporty FM in an interview, Duncan explained the reasons behind his early departure from international football.
“With the national team, it was complicated because it was my decision to quit because I wasn’t getting the respective I think I deserved,” he said.
“For a player like me when I got to the peak of my career, I thought I deserved more respect which I wasn’t getting enough.
“I think it was best to part ways in order for the young ones or the ones they thought they were right for the team to get the chance to play.”
Ghana Coach Otto Addo was ‘Surprised’ by Duncan’s Early Retirement
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo expressed surprise at Alfred Duncan’s decision to retire from international football.
Ahead of Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar, Addo disclosed that he had plans for the midfielder.

“The last time I spoke to Alfred Duncan was in February (last year), I gave him an invite but he declined and told me his reasons and I accepted it as a coach,” Addo said.
“I approached Duncan about a call-up, but the midfielder turned me down. Duncan’s decision to end his international career at the age of 29 surprised me”
Duncan has spent nearly his entire career in Italy, playing for Serie A clubs such as Inter Milan, Sassuolo, Fiorentina, and most recently, Venezia.
