Micky van de Ven signs new contract with Tottenham

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has renewed his contract by signing a new five-year deal with the north London side, as confirmed by the club, committing his long-term future until June 2031, with an option to extend it for an additional year until June 2032.

The new deal comes with an improved salary, making him one of Spurs’ top earners, with three years remaining on that original deal, which was going to end in 2029.

Van de Ven originally joined the club from German side VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023, when he committed to a six-year agreement. Tottenham chose to proactively reward his strong performances and secure his long-term future amid interest from other major European clubs.

The Netherlands international is capable of playing at both left-back and center-back and is widely known for his exceptional speed, physical strength, and ball-playing abilities.

The 25-year-old joined Spurs in 2023 for roughly £43 million and quickly established himself as an important member of the squad and a vital defensive starter with the Premier League side.

The Wormer-born central defender made his senior international debut for the Netherlands in October 2023 and represented his country at Euro 2024.

Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi played a significant role in convincing the Dutch defender to commit his long-term future to the club as he continues to build a formidable side capable of challenging for titles next season, following their narrow escape from Premier League relegation last term.

Speaking to Tottenham after signing his contract, he said: “It’s a special moment to sign a new deal and a proud moment for me and my family.

“I’ve always loved Spurs, from the first day I stepped in here. I love the Club, I love the fans and I’ve developed really well here.

“It’s clear the direction the Club wants to go in and I want to be a part of it. I’m excited about what’s to come.”
