Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler confirms Tariq Lamptey injury setback

Lamptey has racked up 18 appearances for Brighton in all competitions this term

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has revealed that Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey has suffered a serious injury in training and will be sidelined for the upcoming matches.

Lamptey was expected to return from suspension for Brighton’s clash against Manchester City on Saturday, but he was absent from the matchday squad.

Speaking after the game, Hurzeler revealed that the full-back sustained the injury during training, ruling him out of the Premier League fixture.

“Tariq has a bigger issue (than March),” Hurzeler told reporters.

“He had a bad moment in the training session, and I can’t say exactly how long he will be out.

“Solly is just a small issue. I think he will be back after the international break.”

Huge Blow For Ghana and Brighton

Tariq Lamptey, who was left out of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Brighton this season, including 13 in the Premier League.

Lamptey has played both in his natural right-back position and on the opposite flank. He has scored three goals and provided two assists.

Brighton are already without Ferdi Kadioglu and Igor Julio due to injury, with both players having featured at full-back earlier this season. Jack Hinshelwood filled in at right-back on Saturday in Lamptey’s absence.

Hurzeler’s side fought back twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Manchester City, earning a valuable point at the Etihad Stadium.

The result leaves them in seventh place in the Premier League, just one point behind fifth, a position likely to yield Champions League qualification this season.
