Michael Owen identifies Antoine Semenyo as potential Mohamed Salah successor

Semenyo has been named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Michael Owen has called on Liverpool to make an “incredible move” for Alexander Isak, while also suggesting that Antoine Semenyo could be a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah.

Salah’s current contract expires at the end of the season, and with no resolution reached in ongoing talks regarding an extension, the Egyptian winger is set to leave on a free transfer this summer.

In the meantime, Liverpool are expected to revamp their forward line.

Darwin Nunez is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, and there are uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa.

Isak, who scored the winner against Liverpool in the League Cup final on Sunday, has been linked as a potential target for the Reds in the upcoming transfer window.

Former Liverpool star Owen has highlighted both the Sweden international and Bournemouth winger Semenyo as key figures who could give Liverpool’s attack a new look next season under manager Arne Slot.

The Bournemouth forward has been in solid form this season, scoring seven goals in 28 Premier League appearances

“There’s been a few rumours lately about different players. Alexander Isak would just be an incredible move if Liverpool could get him, but I’m sure virtually every team wants him and Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of him, so that would be an interesting one,” said Owen.

“I like Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth, who plays in the same position as Salah. I like him, a younger version, but definitely got energy, scoring capabilities and a good player.”

Antoine Semenyo has been named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Ghana currently sit third in the group after Madagascar’s victory over the Central African Republic, making these fixtures crucial for their World Cup qualification hopes.

The Black Stars will face Chad on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium before travelling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on Monday, March 24, as they aim to strengthen their chances of reaching the tournament.
