Antoine Griezmann shuts down MLS move, extends stay at Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann has put an end to speculation linking him with a move to Major League Soccer by committing his future to Atlético Madrid, according to Relevo.

During his initial spell with the club, the Frenchman established himself as one of the finest players in both La Liga and the world.

His performances peaked in 2018, when he finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or rankings following a triumphant World Cup campaign with France.
In 2019, Griezmann made the controversial decision to join Barcelona – a move that, for some, slightly tainted his legacy at Atlético.
Struggling to replicate his best form at Camp Nou, he never truly settled and ultimately returned to Atlético in 2021. Since his return, Griezmann has swiftly re-established himself as a pivotal figure for Diego Simeone’s side.

In addition to being a world-class talent, Griezmann is also one of the highest earners in the Atlético Madrid dressing room.
Now 34 years old, the Frenchman had recently been linked with a potential move to Major League Soccer.
Throughout his illustrious career with Atlético, Griezmann has made 435 appearances across all competitions, scoring 197 goals and providing 91 assists, underlining his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.
Griezmann’s international career has been equally remarkable. He won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with France in 2010 and made his senior debut in 2014.

Over the next decade, he earned 137 caps and scored 44 goals, making him France’s third-most capped player and fourth-highest goalscorer of all time.
He rose to prominence on the international stage at UEFA Euro 2016, where he was the tournament’s top scorer and named Player of the Tournament as hosts France finished runners-up.
Two years later, Griezmann played a pivotal role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph, winning the Silver Boot, the Bronze Ball, and the Man of the Match award in the final.
At the 2022 World Cup, he impressed in a deeper central midfield role as France once again reached the final, ultimately finishing as runners-up.
He retired from international football in 2024, leaving behind a legacy as one of France’s greatest-ever players.
