Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola furious over Evanilson red card in Man United draw

The Bournemouth manager fumes over Evanilson’s red card in draw against Man United

Andoni Iraola

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is furious over the decision to send off Evanilson in his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

Iraola fumes over Evanilson’s red card for a challenge on Noussair Mazraoui as Bournemouth boss confirms intention to appeal decision after Man United draw.

It looked all but finished for Bournemouth heading into a hard-fought 1-0 win on Sunday, only for Evanilson’s 70th-minute red card for a foul on Mazraoui to introduce a new twist to the game.

The Red Devils scored a last-gasp equaliser to snatch a draw. After the match, Cherries coach Iraola felt disappointed with Peter Bankes decision to issue a red.

The Spanish manager felt hard done by the wrong decision that was made, immediately raising concerns, hoping to appeal the call.

He told Sky Sports: “Common sense. Everyone who has played football understands. He slips.

“He doesn’t catch him with the leg that goes high and the consequence is a red card. It is another three games without playing.

“The repercussions for us are huge. Of course we are going to appeal. It is common sense. In the first half Evanilson gets a kick in the chest by Casemiro.

“I don’t think you should have a red card for this. But the VAR cuts the worst angle, the worst frame.”

“On suggestions that VAR did not tell the referee that Evanilson slipped, he replied:

“If you are telling me that then it is something very, very serious. It is difficult for us.”

This result puts Bournemouth’s bid to secure European football for the first time in the club’s history into jeopardy.

A win would have taken them eighth, but as it stands, they find themselves languishing at 10th and sit seven points behind seventh-placed Aston Villa with four games to go.
