Ruben Amorim makes Man United sack claim

Amorim’s team have managed just two league wins since January 26

Ruben Amorim has admitted he should consider stepping aside as Manchester United manager if the team carries their dismal league form into next season.

United’s woeful run reached a new low at Old Trafford with a 2-0 defeat to a West Ham side that had not won any of their previous eight matches.

Amorim’s team have managed just two league wins since January 26 – against already-relegated Ipswich and Leicester – and are now enduring a joint-worst Premier League winless streak of seven games.

Amorim said: “We are losing the feeling that we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home.

“If we are not scared of losing a game as Manchester United and don’t have that fear anymore, it is the most dangerous thing a big club can have.”

On a three-points-for-a-win basis, Manchester United are on course for their worst points tally since the 1930/31 relegation campaign, when they would have finished with just 29 points from a 42-game season.

United currently sit 16th in the table with 39 points, ahead of only their Europa League final opponents, Tottenham, and the three relegated sides.

“Everybody here has to think seriously about a lot of things,” added Ruben Amorim.

“Everybody is thinking about the [Europa League] final. The final is not the issue. We have bigger things to think about.

“I’m talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that.

“It’s a decisive moment in the history of the club.

“We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave because we will not have a next season like this.

“If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give the space to different people.”
