Ange Postecoglou confirms Dejan Kulusevski set for lengthy spell on sidelines

The Swedish winger has undergone surgery

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Dejan Kulusevski will be out for “at least a few months” after sustaining a knee injury in last weekend’s clash against Crystal Palace.

The news comes as a major blow to Spurs, just a week before their Europa League final.

It was revealed on Wednesday that the Swedish winger has undergone surgery on the injury, ruling him out of action for the foreseeable future.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa, Postecoglou provided an update on Kulusevski’s injury, revealing that it was initially believed to be just a minor knock.

“Obviously disappointing news. Initially we thought it wasn’t too serious but it blew up the day after,” the 59-year-old said. “He’s had the surgery which will put him out for at least a few months.”

He added: “We’ll see. We’ve only got basic information at the moment.”

Kulusevski has joined fellow countryman Lucas Bergvall in the treatment room after the youngster recently suffered an ankle injury during training.

While Spurs fans remain hopeful that Bergvall could push for a return ahead of next Wednesday’s final, Postecoglou has indicated that the teenager will ‘likely be a while,’ despite now being out of his protective boot and taking his first steps back on the grass.

“No, it’s still the same sort of timeframe,” he added. “Never long term but he’s just got out of his boot and taking his first step on the grass but he’ll likely be a while.”
