Brentford agree deal with Liverpool to sign goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher

Kelleher has reportedly agreed on a move to Brentford

Brentford have reportedly agreed to a deal to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, as the Premier League winners prepare to welcome Giorgi Mamardashvili’s summer arrival from Valencia.

Kelleher will join Brentford manager Thomas Frank’s side in a reported deal worth £18m with add-ons included, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Fabrizio adds that sensational Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken will, however, be leaving the Gtech Community Stadium in a separate move to join Bayer Leverkusen for €10m.

Kelleher had previously been linked with moves to Leeds United, West Ham United, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Manchester United.

Kelleher has been adamant on a move away from the Reds this summer after news broke that they had already secured the signing of Georgian international Mamardashvili.

Kelleher, 26, who came through the Liverpool academy, has just a year remaining on his contract, prompting the need to cash in on him this summer – offering the chance for the club to receive a significant transfer fee for Kelleher.

The move works for both sides, especially the departing Kelleher, who intends to play at the highest level and as first choice having played as Liverpool’s long-standing no.2 for years.

With Mamardashvili set to arrive from Valencia this summer, kelleher is likely to find himself as the third choice if he were to remain at Anfield next season.

As for Brentford, its desire to secure a new goalkeeper has been enhanced given that goalkeeper Mark Flekken is reportedly set to join Bayer Leverkusen. Fabrizio also confirmed that the player “will leave Brentford and join Bayer Leverkusen for €10m.”

Kelleher had previously been linked with potential moves to Leeds United, West Ham United, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Manchester United.

Kelleher has seen himself good enough to be the first choice at any top club – and that has been his ambition for next season and beyond.

Speaking after the season finale at home to Crystal Palace last week, Kelleher told Optus Sports that he “definitely” expects to leave Liverpool this summer.

“I’ve said it before as well, I feel like I’m good enough to be a No.1 and I feel like I’m good enough to play week in, week out and that’s what I’m looking to do.
