Napoli complete signing of Kevin De Bruyne

Antonio Conte and Napoli have completed the move for one of the best midfielders in the world

Napoli have completed the signing of Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City on a free transfer today, following City’s reluctance to renew the player’s contract, which expires in June.

Napoli confirmed the deal on the club’s official X(Twitter) page after the player completed his medicals and signed a two-year contract with the Serie A champions.

De Bruyne, earlier in the day, was received by a rousing crowd ahead of his medical, after several days of intense speculation about the proposed transfer.

Reports indicated that the reason the transfer was delayed was because of De Bruyne’s house hunt, with the 33-year-old’s lawyer forced to fly to swiftly facilitate the process.

With that issue seemingly put to bed, the former City star has been confirmed as the newest player to wear Napoli’s famous sky blue strip.

The former Chelsea and VfL Wolfsburg attacker will be joining Napoli at a great time, with Antonio Conte’s side still buzzing after winning a historic Scudetto just two seasons after claiming their first title in over 30 years.

De Bruyne left Manchester City, following a 10-year successful career in the Premier League. Despite his overwhelming milestone with the club, City opted not to extend his contract beyond this season.

Several clubs, such as Aston Villa, along with clubs from the United States and the Saudi Pro League showed interest, but his desire to play for a top club led him to choose the Serie A champions.

During his stay at the Etihad Stadium, he clinched 16 trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

He will now link up with Belgium team-mate Romelu Lukaku, as well as ex-Premier League stars Billy Gilmour, and Serie A MVP Scott McTominay.

Napoli have won Serie A on four occasions, but never successfully defended the title. With the former City captain now joining them, there seems to be some renewed hope of changing that narrative.
