Gittens for Dortmund

Chelsea are poised to finalize the transfer of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, with all parties reaching an agreement today in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Borussia Dortmund initially rejected two separate offers from Chelsea for the 20-year-old winger before ultimately accepting an enhanced bid.

The England U21 star, long linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, is poised to be announced as Chelsea’s newest signing following an agreement on a €65 million transfer fee.

He is expected to cost £48.5 million, plus £3.5 million in add-ons.

Gittens is set to sign a seven-year contract, keeping him at Chelsea until 2032. He scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 49 games for Dortmund last season.

The 20-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City’s academy back in 2020, and he racked up a total of 107 first-team appearances for the German giants.

Arsenal had eyed Gittens as a prime target for this summer, but the winger focused on securing a transfer to Stamford Bridge, with Dortmund officially confirming the agreement.

Gittens marks Chelsea’s seventh acquisition in the 2025 summer transfer window, joining Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, Palmeiras winger Estêvão Willian, Sporting CP midfielder Dario Essugo, Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr, Independiente del Valle prodigy Kendry Páez, and Brighton forward João Pedro.

“Jamie Gittens’ career exemplifies the development of top talents at BVB. We discovered him very early, signed him almost at no cost, continuously developed him in our youth academy, and provided him with playing time at the highest professional level.

“Jamie has repaid that trust with dedication, performance, and goals. His transfer back to his home country would be highly valuable for us. We wish Jamie all the best for his sporting future,” says Borussia Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken.

“The negotiations with Chelsea were challenging, but in the end, we are glad that we can most likely realize our expectations and gain planning security,” says BVB Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl, adding:

“Jamie is an excellent player who has brought us great joy. It was his wish to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the very best and much success.”

The young talent is set to take on the role of Chelsea’s starting left winger, despite limited playing time in the latter half of last season, following Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United and Mykhailo Mudryk’s continued absence due to a doping suspension.
