Justice Blay opens up on Kotoko rift: “I’m not the only one who drinks”

Justice Blay was the club’s deputy captain before the rift began.

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has broken his silence on the circumstances surrounding his exit from the club, making several explosive claims about life inside the team’s camp during his tenure.

Speaking on Pure FM, Blay revealed he sensed he was no longer part of the club’s plans even before management officially informed him.

“I knew I was not going to be part of Kotoko’s team. I sensed it during our camp ahead of the MTN FA Cup game against Golden Kick FC. I was later called into a meeting and told that I am no longer in the plans of the club. The explanation they gave was that they are not only looking at performance,” he stated.

He further disclosed that he had overheard a private conversation between Nana Apinkra and coach Kwesi Appiah, during which one of them remarked, “I like Kwame,” which, in his view, confirmed his suspicion that certain players were being favoured.

Beyond football matters, Blay addressed allegations about his off-field lifestyle, particularly claims that he was the only player with drinking habits.

“People have been misinformed that I’m the only drunkard in the club, but that’s not true,” he said.

He went on to name teammates Joseph Ablor and Guinean import Camara Mohammed as players who, according to him, also engaged in smoking shisha.

Blay revealed personal conflicts within the squad, alleging that Camara Mohammed had an affair with his girlfriend. This situation escalated into a police incident following a confrontation between Blay and the woman. Additionally, he accused striker Kwame Poku of betraying him by taking over his “sugar mummy.”

“That’s where I even assaulted the security man at the clubhouse because of the tension,” he confessed. “I am clarifying this because it has been twisted.”

Justice Blay and Asante Kotoko mutually agreed to terminate his contract after the 2024/25 season, despite him still having a year remaining on his deal.
