GFA boss Kurt Okraku remains coy on contesting for third term

Kurt is focusing on developing Ghana football rather than on his political future.

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says it is too early to decide whether he will seek a third term in office.

His comments come after delegates at the 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram on Tuesday approved an amendment to extend the GFA presidential term limit from two to three terms.

With two and a half years left on his current mandate, Okraku told journalists that his focus remains on developing Ghana’s football rather than on his political future.

“This is premature. We have almost two and a half years to serve the Ghanaian game, and when the time comes, I will make a decision—just like many others who may be eligible to contest,” he said.

He stressed that attention should be on improving the domestic game, making the most of recent investments, and helping clubs adapt to current challenges.

“What should be a topic is how we handle the new wind blowing around our domestic game, the high level of investment the FA has secured to make it a reality, and how well our clubs can respond,” Okraku added.

Out of 123 delegates who voted on the amendment, 114 supported it, six opposed, and three abstained. The change revises the 2019 GFA statutes, which previously capped the presidency at two four-year terms.
