GPL Matchday 2 Wrap: Medeama, Lions continue fine start, Hearts record first win

Only Medeama and Heart of Lions have won their first two games.

Matchday two of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League served up drama, history, and goals across the country, with Heart of Lions and Medeama SC recording emphatic victories while Hearts of Oak got back on track.

In Tema, Heart of Lions underlined their fine early-season form with a commanding 4-1 win over Eleven Wonders. Quickfire goals from Paul Atta and Freeman midway through the first half gave the Lions a firm grip on the game before late strikes from Ishmael Addo and Kojo Kuma sealed the rout.

Eleven Wonders’ Kofi Asamoah grabbed a consolation in the 69th minute, but it did little to dent the visitors’ authority. Lions have now scored five goals in two games and sit on six points a team brimming with confidence.

Meanwhile in Tarkwa, champions Medeama SC showed their class with a dominant 4-0 victory against newcomers Vision FC at the TNA Stadium.

Kamaradini Mahamudu opened the scoring, with Abdul Salam, Emmanuel Owusu and Nurudeen Mohammed all adding their names to the scoresheet in a performance that keeps the Mauve and Yellow firmly at the top of the standings.

Saturday also witnessed a historic occasion in Hohoe, where Hohoe United hosted their first-ever Premier League home game at the newly-approved Hohoe Sports Stadium.

The atmosphere was electric when Abass Ganiu struck just two minutes after the restart to score the club’s maiden Premier League goal on home soil. But the fairytale ending wasn’t to be, as substitute Opoku struck in the 74th minute to earn Young Apostles a share of the spoils. Both teams are still chasing their first win of the season.

At the Nsenkyire Park, Samartex were forced to wait until late on to rescue a point against Karela United. Zaidan Mohammed had given the visitors the lead, but Samuel Tetteh popped up with a crucial equaliser to snatch a 1-1 draw. Samartex remain without a win, while Karela edge up to four points.

Swedru was buzzing on Sunday as All Blacks played their first home fixture of the season. They did not disappoint their fans, sweeping aside Berekum Chelsea 3-0. Abubakari, Rudolph Mensah and Hafiz all found the net in a statement victory that puts the Wolves back on track after their opening day defeat. Chelsea, on the other hand, are yet to register a point.

In Dormaa, Aduana Stars left it late but finally secured their first win of the season, thanks to Anponsah Hansen’s decisive strike against Nations FC.

Bechem United, however, could not find a breakthrough at home, being held to a frustrating goalless draw by Basake Holy Stars.

The final act of Matchday two came in Tema, where Hearts of Oak picked up their first win of the campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Dreams FC. Mohammed Hussein struck in the first half to give the Phobians all three points, lifting them to four points after two games while Dreams languish at the bottom without a point.

Elsewhere, Asante Kotoko’s clash with Bibiani Goldstars was postponed due to the two teams involvement in continental competitions.
