Otto Addo becomes first Coach to take Ghana to successive World Cups

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has written his name into Ghana’s football history books as the first coach to lead the nation to back-to-back FIFA World Cups.
The German-trained tactician first guided Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after masterminding a tense playoff victory over arch-rivals Nigeria.
In doing so, he became the first Ghanaian to both play for and coach the Black Stars at the global showpiece.

Addo has now repeated that remarkable feat, leading Ghana to another World Cup after a strong qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars sealed qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1–0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, thanks to a decisive strike from Mohammed Kudus.
Under Addo’s guidance, Ghana have been impressive in the qualifiers unbeaten in nine games, winning six and drawing three. His consistent performances have placed him among the nation’s most successful coaches in qualifying history.
Ghana finished top of Group I with 25 points, six clear of second-placed Madagascar, to book their ticket to North America 2026.
Ghana has now qualified for the FIFA World Cup five times: 2006 under Ratomir Dujković, 2010 under Milovan Rajevac, 2014 under Kwesi Appiah, and both 2022 and 2026 under Otto Addo.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Addo has restored belief by steering Ghana back onto the world stage cementing his legacy as one of the most successful Black Stars coaches in modern history.
