Liverpool boss Arne Slot confirms fresh injury setbacks

Arne Slot is frustrated about the injury blows to Conor Bradley and Florian Wirtz

Arne Slot in press conference on player injury update

Liverpool boss Arne Slot continues to be plagued by injuries to key figures in his squad, with the latest injury to duo Conor Bradley and German star Florian Wirtz confirmed by the Dutch manager.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Allison Becker, who has been out with a hamstring injury since October, is expected to return this Saturday for Liverpool’s home game against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Slot’s update suggests Bradley faces at least another three weeks out with no early return in sight, while fellow right-back Jeremy Frimpong remains sidelined after suffering a second hamstring injury in October’s Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Yet despite the positives, Slot struck a frustrated tone. The 47-year-old manager made no secret of his disappointment that both Bradley and Wirtz remain sidelined.

Slot said in his press conference: ” [Andy] Robertson will be with us today. Alisson trained last week and this week so he will be able to play if things work out today.

“We do have some issues after the international break. Conor Bradley is unable to play, Florian Wirtz unable to play. That is far from ideal.”

“Both muscle issues,” Slot continued. “I don’t expect Conor to be part of the upcoming 22 days, maybe the end unless a miracle happens.

“Florian maybe should not be that long. Jeremie is out just as long, won’t be available in the next few weeks.”

Slot admitted he’ll have to rely heavily on a lean squad and the versatility of his players to navigate through the tough times with persistent injury setbacks.

Dominik Szoboszlai, who has already been utilised at right-back this season, could be asked to fill the gap again during a packed fixture list.

“Dominik is playing very well in all positions,” the Liverpool boss explained. “Joe Gomez has played two times 90 minutes in 2025, so if we want to keep him available longer, it’s maybe a risk to play him seven times in 22 days. He missed training yesterday, but we are expecting him to train today.

“Maybe one or two players have to play in positions they normally won’t do.”
