Arsenal reach agreement to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle

Arsenal’s summer rebuild has gathered pace after the Premier League champions agreed a deal in principle worth £75 million to sign Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, with Mikel Arteta continuing to reinforce his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Newcastle rejected the Gunners’ initial bid of £70 million, with the Brazilian international being valued at £80 million. He would be joining a group of midfielders which includes Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The 28-year-old has been granted permission by the Newcastle Sporting Director Ross Wilson and his team to undergo his medicals, with a replacement for the midfielder already underway.

The Brazilian midfielder has two years remaining on his contract at St. James’ Park, with an option for a third and has been keen on move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have already secured the services of Christos Tzolis arriving from Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee, Illan Meslier joining on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United, and Piero Hincapié completing a permanent move from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £34.5 million after the club exercised the option to buy included in his loan spell.

Guimaraes, who joined the Magpies in 2022 from Lyon for £40m, has made 195 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 31 goals.
