Barcelona have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will be sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during their 4-3 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday in La Liga.

The Polish striker, who currently leads the La Liga scoring charts, was forced off in the 78th minute, prompting early reports that he could be out for a couple of weeks due to a hamstring tear.

The club have now provided an official update following further tests conducted on the veteran forward, though no specific timeline for his return has been given.

The timing of Robert Lewandowski’s injury couldn’t be worse for both Barcelona and the striker himself.

It’s reported that he will be sidelined for approximately three weeks, meaning he will miss several crucial matches, including the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.

Lewandowski is currently having his most prolific season in a Barcelona shirt.

In 48 appearances across all competitions – La Liga, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup – he has scored 40 goals: 25 in La Liga, 11 in the Champions League, 3 in the Copa del Rey, and 1 in the Super Cup.

His 25 goals in the league have him leading the race for the Pichichi trophy, with a three-goal advantage over Kylian Mbappé, a nine-goal lead over Ante Budimir, and 10 more than both Raphinha and Oihan Sancet.

It remains to be seen just how much further Lewandowski can extend his goal tally this season.

With Lewandowski out, manager Hansi Flick will need to adjust his team’s tactics. The most likely replacement is Ferran Torres, who has netted 17 goals for Barcelona in all competitions this season.
