Chelsea agree deal to sign Sporting winger Geovany Quenda in summer

Quenda has impressed over the last season-and-a-half with Sporting

Chelsea have agreed a deal with Sporting CP to sign Manchester United target Geovany Quenda ahead of the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The 17-year-old will remain at the Portuguese club for the 2025-26 season before making the move to Stamford Bridge in July 2026.

The deal includes a seven-year contract, running until 2033, with an option to extend for another 12 months.

The transfer fee is reported to be in the region of €45-50million, which is close to the amount Manchester United had considered offering when exploring a move for Quenda in January.

A medical has already been completed for the Portugal Under-21 international, who is expected to play a prominent role for Sporting in the upcoming campaign.

Manchester United Showed Keen Interest in Quenda

Man United had also shown interest in signing Quenda, especially after he worked under their head coach, Ruben Amorim, at Sporting.

Quenda has racked up 43 appearances across all competitions this season

Chelsea, however, intend to use him as a traditional winger, a position he is equally comfortable in on either side – something he has predominantly occupied since Amorim’s move to Old Trafford.

Quenda has racked up 43 appearances across all competitions this season, including 10 in the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League and will return to action on Sunday with a trip to Arsenal.

Having spent much of his youth career as a winger, Quenda impressed as a wing-back under Ruben Amorim early in the 2024-25 season but was reverted to a wide role under Rui Borges.

Left-footed, Quenda has been effective on both wings throughout his career.
