Chelsea remain in contention for Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike

Chelsea still have eyes on Hugo Ekitike for a summer move

Chelsea remain in contention to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike, with further talks reportedly taking place between both sides.

According to reports from journalist Florian Plattenberg, several teams are chasing after the French international’s signature.

The German side have not ruled out cashing out on the prolific young striker in the current transfer window.

However, Frankfurt are demanding a fee of €100m to release the player, but have not yet received an offer from any top club, as confirmed by Sky Sports France.

The 22-year-old announced himself as one of Europe’s top talents, following his 15-goals for Frankfurt in the German top flight last season.

To make it more interesting, the Blues have already secured the services of former Ipswich young forward Liam Delap, pending a medical and official announcement.

Adding Ekitike to the forward ranks will raise eyebrows for the future of Nikolas Jackson – another young striker – making it three.

Ekitike scored 22 goals and provided eight assists in 48 appearances

Jackson could only manage 10 goals in the Premier League for Enzo Maresca’s UEFA Conference League winners, but struggled throughout the season.

Chelsea are poised to reinforce up front, as they look to add fresh legs to offer competition for Jackson, and they see Ekitike as an ideal profile to improve their squad this summer.

Reports have suggested that Chelsea could try to tempt Frankfurt into lowering the Ekitike price by offering players as part of the deal.

Meanwhile, the France under-21 star who was called up for the UEFA European competition has reportedly pulled out of the squad following an injury setback.

According to The Mirror, Ekitike has withdrawn from the tournament as he is currently struggling with a back injury.

The French medical staff assumes that Ekitike would return to full fitness in time to feature doing the opening stages of the tournament.

We are still in the early days of the transfer window, and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will look to complete a deal for the Frenchman.
