Wayne Rooney, former England and Manchester United forward has stated that he understands the lure of joining Real Madrid for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 26-year-old, according to multiple reports, will sign for the Spanish side on a free transfer this summer.

This will bring an end to his spell at Liverpool, a club he has been with from his days at the academy.

Madrid have been on the market for a prime right back, especially after the long-term injury of Daniel Carvajal.

“If Trent Alexander-Arnold does join Real Madrid this summer, fair play to him. I was once tempted to make a big move to Spain myself,” Wayne Rooney told the BBC.

“Alexander-Arnold is 26 and out of contract at the end of the season, so he is in a position where he either commits the rest of his career to Liverpool or decides to go to Real – who clearly want him,” he added.

“If he was to leave Liverpool for any other club you might wonder why, but, because it is Real we are talking about, I don’t think you could question it as a career move,” Wayne Rooney concluded.

Alexander-Arnold has won multiple major trophies with Liverpool, including a Premier League and Champions League.

He’s set to win the Premier League once again with Liverpool as the Reds have a commanding lead on the log.
