Juventus grow hesitant over Robert Lewandowski deal

Robert Lewandowski’s current contract with Barcelona expires on June 30

Serie A giants Juventus, who were linked with a summer move for Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski, have reportedly decided against going ahead with a potential bid.

Lewandowski is likely to leave the Catalan club as a free agent, according to reports in La Liga, and his representatives are working tirelessly to secure a new project that aligns with their client’s ambitions.

As such, talks between the player’s representatives and the Juventus leadership have taken place, but the Bianconeri are now showing growing hesitation over completing a deal for the veteran striker.

While Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski’s agent, intensified efforts to engineer a move for his client through meetings in Italy, the response from Juve was understood to be notably cautious.

It seems that club chiefs are unconvinced that committing major wages to a 37-year-old aligns with the direction of their ongoing rebuild.

Meanwhile, Italian Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has indicated that the “Old Ladies” have cooled down their pursuit regarding the transfer, largely due to the financial package required to sign him.

The Polish striker has a contract at the Spotify Camp Nou that is officially set to expire on June 30, meaning he could hit the market as a free agent if an extension is not triggered.

The former Dortmund and Bayern Munich forward’s age, in addition to his massive wage expectations, has caused Juve directors to pause and reassess their ambition of completing the deal, even if it were a free transfer.

Juve are understood to be placing greater emphasis on building a financially balanced squad for the future rather than committing significant resources to short-term moves for ageing stars, despite the pedigree and commercial appeal attached to elite veterans.

While Lewandowski’s future continues to generate speculation amid Juventus’ hesitation, the striker has so far kept his plans for next season closely guarded, leaving his future more wide open than previously expected.

Juve’s growing reluctance to pursue the Polish international could also be influenced by uncertainty surrounding their own attacking department.

The club is still facing a delicate situation over the future of Dušan Vlahović as talks over a short-term extension remain in an impasse.
