Man United turn down Real Betis’ offer to extend Antony’s loan deal

Antony has found his best form under Pellegrini following a difficult two-and-a-half years at Man United

Manchester United have reportedly turned down Real Betis’ offer to extend Antony’s loan deal, with the winger’s future at the club now hinging on their European aspirations.

According to The Mirror, United have earmarked the Brazilian for a summer departure as they look to raise funds for future transfers.

The Red Devils are aiming to recoup £30million for the 25-year-old, who initially joined the Red Devils from Ajax for £85million in 2022.

This decision comes as United look to build a £200 million ($265m) transfer war chest for head coach Ruben Amorim.

As part of this plan, the Premier League giants have rejected Betis’ offer of a loan extension. For Betis to meet United’s valuation, they will likely need to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Currently, Manuel Pellegrini’s side sit in sixth place in La Liga, just three points behind Villarreal, who occupy fifth place, a spot that could secure an additional qualifying berth for Spain based on the UEFA coefficient table. Betis also has a game in hand over Villarreal.

Since joining Betis on loan in January, the winger has contributed to eight goal involvements in 15 appearances across all competitions

For Antony, the incentive to push Betis towards Champions League qualification is clear: securing a permanent move to the club that has revitalised his career.

Even if Betis fail to secure a top-four finish, Antony’s consistent performances will surely make him an attractive target for other clubs looking for creativity and flair.

Regardless of Betis’ outcome, it seems increasingly likely that Antony’s future does not involve a return to Old Trafford.
