Real Madrid out of race to sign Marc Guehi

Real Madrid have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the January transfer window, leaving Liverpool and Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in pole position to secure his signature.

Guehi, whose contract with the Eagles expires in the summer of 2026, is likely to leave the FA Cup winners for free, following a change in stance from the club’s chairman, Steve Parish, last week.

Liverpool, which failed to finalise a last-minute £35 million move for the English centre-back in the summer, will have to compete with Bayern in the upcoming transfer window; however, it remains unclear where the player’s final destination will be.

Guehi is one of the most in-demand players in Europe, and the Reds boss, Arne Slot, is confident of bringing the Palace captain to Anfield this summer to bolster his defence.

Unfortunately for them, Liverpool isn’t the only team in the frame, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona also monitoring the situation of the 26-year-old defender.

Bayern and Barcelona are now the two European giants that have the advantage of being able to discuss a summer free transfer with Guehi in January.

Madrid have been linked with Guehi, whose contract expires on June 30, making him an attractive target for clubs seeking a new centre-back.

But despite being available without a transfer fee next summer, the money involved has reportedly put Xabi Alonso’s side off.
