Real Madrid move ahead of Liverpool and other Premier League clubs to sign the Bournemouth defender

Real Madrid are reportedly in high-profile talks with defender Dean Huijsen and Bournemouth over a move to the Spanish capital in the summer.

According to reports from The Athletic, the Spanish giants are in talks with the player’s representatives over a summer move for the Spanish international.

The Netherlands-born Spanish, who has a £50m release clause in his contract, has attracted interest from across Europe, but reports have it that he favours a move to the 15-time European champions.

Earlier reports had revealed that Liverpool were front-runners to secure the signature of the 20-year-old, while Chelsea and Arsenal were also reported to have registered an interest in the youngster.

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were also reported to be keen on the young defender, who has seen his stock rise after enjoying an impressive first season in English football since joining from Juventus on a six-year contract in July.

Huijsen has been crucial to Andoni Iraola’s attractive and effective style of play, which has impressed at Bournemouth, catching the eye of Los Blancos bosses who need reinforcement in their defensive areas.

His exceptional first year on The Cherries has seen him earn a maiden call-up by Spain, and the first of his two caps to date in March.

Huijsen made only one first-team appearance at Juventus, whom he joined in 2021 from Malaga, before playing 14 matches on loan at Roma during the 2023/24 season, scoring twice.

He has made 30 Premier League appearances for the club this season and scored three goals in the process as a central defender.
