Real Madrid center back Raul Asencio has received his first senior team international callup with Spain from coach Luis De La Fuente after a consistent run of performances this year.
Asencio began to rise through the ranks for Real back in November last year, and has since remained an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI this campaign, particularly in the UEFA Champions League.
The 22-year-old has made 24 appearances this season for Real after Los Blancos suffered major setbacks in defense with the likes of Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao being ruled out due to injury.
The Spanish national team call up afforded Asencio hands him the opportunity to make a strong case for himself in order to remain within the thoughts of De La Fuente moving forward.
Asencio is expected to feature in defense with the likes of Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi or Robin Le Normand, all of whom are rivals of his in La Liga.
Spain take on Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League quarter final scheduled for March 20 and March 23 in a double-legged tie, and Asencio will be once again aiming to impress on the big stage.
