Patrice Motsepe secures second term as CAF president

Motsepe has pledged continued growth for African football.

Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed for a second term as president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), extending his leadership until 2029.

The South African businessman, who has been widely praised for stabilizing CAF’s finances and raising professional standards, secured his re-election at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.

Motsepe first assumed the role in 2021 during a general assembly in Johannesburg and has since overseen significant reforms within the organization.

A prominent mining magnate, Motsepe is also the owner of South African club Mamelodi Sundowns. However, he stepped aside from his club duties upon taking charge at CAF, with his son, Tlhopie Motsepe, now serving as Sundowns’ chairperson.
