A Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Member, Frederick Acheampong, has expressed openness to the possible return of Andre Dede Ayew to the Black Stars as Ghana prepares for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Acheampong hinted that the veteran forward could be recalled by head coach Otto Addo for Ghana’s upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar on March 21 and 24, respectively.
Ayew, a long-serving captain of the national team, has been absent from recent Black Stars games. However, his strong performances in the French Ligue 1 could see him make a comeback.
“Ayew is one of the Black Stars’ most committed players. If he is playing top-level football in France and the coach needs him, why not? He has always shown commitment whenever given the opportunity,” Acheampong stated.
The 35-year-old forward has been in solid form this season, scoring four goals and providing an assist in 17 Ligue 1 appearances for Le Havre AC. His recent standout performance—registering a goal and an assist in Le Havre’s thrilling 4-3 victory over RC Lens—helped push the club to 16th place as they fight to avoid relegation.
Ayew has a history of delivering in crucial moments, having played a key role in keeping Le Havre in the league last season. With his experience and leadership, his return to the Black Stars could provide a significant boost as Ghana aims to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
