The hosts got off to a flying start, with Politano scoring the opening goal just over a minute into the match.

Napoli kept their Scudetto ambitions alive with a hard-fought 2-1 win over AC Milan at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Goals from Matteo Politano and Romelu Lukaku secured the three points for the Partenopei, while a late consolation goal from Luka Jovic was not enough to spark a Milan comeback.

The pressure was on both teams coming into the match, with Napoli needing a win to keep their Scudetto hopes alive and Milan languishing in ninth place.

The hosts got off to a flying start, with Politano scoring the opening goal just over a minute into the match.

The Italian winger took on three Milan defenders before firing low into the near bottom corner from 14 yards.

Napoli doubled their lead in the 33rd minute, with Lukaku scoring his side’s second goal.

The Belgian striker scuffed the finish past Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from 14 yards, after being played through by Billy Gilmour.

Milan were given a lifeline back into the game when Philip Billing bundled into the back of Theo Hernandez for a penalty, but Santiago Gimenez’s weak and central spot-kick was smothered by Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret.

The miss was Gimenez’s fourth penalty failure of the season, and it proved costly for Milan. Despite a late siege from the Rossoneri, Napoli held on for the win.

A late goal from Jovic, his first in Serie A in almost a full calendar year, was not enough to spark a Milan comeback.
