Rayan Cherki confirms Lyon exit amid interest from Man United and Liverpool

Rayan Cherki has confirmed that he will leave Lyon at the end of the season, amid growing interest from several European heavyweights, including Manchester United and Liverpool.

As reported by CaughtOffside earlier this week, Cherki’s representatives have already made contact with both Premier League clubs regarding a potential move.

The 21-year-old winger is said to have a €22.5million (£19million) release clause in his contract.

Cherki, who can operate on either flank or as a No.10, has also drawn attention from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.

The French playmaker enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 campaign, registering 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking to reporters after Lyon’s 2-0 win over Angers in their final league game of the season, Rayan Cherki said: “Thanks to OL, the coach, the staff, the president, my teammates and all people at the club.”

With his departure from Lyon now confirmed and his release clause considered a bargain for a player of his talent, a transfer battle is expected to unfold in the coming weeks as Europe’s elite look to secure his signature.

Liverpool may find better value in pursuing Cherki as a more attainable alternative to Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

According to The Athletic, the Reds have made contact with Wirtz’s representatives to express their interest in signing the midfielder, should he decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen and pursue a move to the Premier League.

However, Cherki could represent a more affordable and accessible option, potentially offering similar creative qualities without the hefty price tag or competition.
