Chelsea are on the verge of signing another youngster, Jamie Gittens, on a long-term deal

Gittens for Dortmund

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens over a switch to the Premier League this summer.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the Blues have reached an agreement on a 7-year contract with the England under-21 international forward.

Chelsea have submitted an official bid to sign Gittens, with the player keen on moving to Stamford Bridge next season to play under manager Enzo Maresca.

However, negotiations are still ongoing between both clubs to finalise a deal for the talented youngster this summer – with the German giants ready to sell.

The 20-year-old winger is under contract at Dortmund until 2028, however, the Blues’ opening bid falls £5m short of Dortmund’s valuation of £35 million.

The London club are hoping to close the deal before June 10, allowing Gittens to represent Chelsea at the Club World Cup, which starts on June 14.

Gittens looked likely to stay, earlier in the 2024/25 season, as he continued to impress but was later struck with a limited role within Niko Kovac’s side – raising questions of a potential summer exit.

Gittens finished 2024/25 with a total of 12 goals and three assists in all competitions for the Yellow and Balck army.

He became the youngest English player to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League, aged 20 years and 75 days, when Dortmund clashed against Real Madrid in October – topping it off with a goal.

A move to west London would mark his return to Chelsea, where Gittens briefly spent part of his youth career. He also played for Reading and later the Manchester City youth team until his move to Dortmund in 2020.

Chelsea are looking for a right-footed winger who can play on the left side – one that can compete with Pedro Neto, teenager Tyrique George, Joao Felix, and Mykhailo Mudryk, who have struggled on that side of the pitch for the Conference League champions.

The Blues’ chiefs see Gittens as the potential solution or an upgrade to that area of the team, and hope that he arrives with loads of firepower as part of a front three.
