Real Madrid have officially confirmed French defender Ibrahima Konaté as a summer signing for the new season, following the centre back’s departure from Premier League side Liverpool as a free agent.

The big centre back has called a time-out in his Anfield career following a successful five-year period since signing for the Reds from RB Leipzig in May 2021.

According to sources, the Frenchman has now agreed to all terms with the Spanish giants and is set to join as a free agent.

The Frenchman was in talks with Liverpool over a new contract after his deal expired, but both sides failed to reach an agreement. He later confirmed his departure from Liverpool this summer.

During his five-year stay at Anfield, he won the Premier League, FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, playing 183 times for the club in all competitions, with 118 of those coming in the English top-flight.

Madrid were not the only suitors for the 27-year-old, after long being linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, as his future remained unresolved.

The club officially confirmed the centre-back’s signing in a brief statement on its website and on its X page, with the caption, “This is how Ibrahima Konate plays.”

Real Madrid C. F. and Ibrahima Konaté have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.”

Konate has put pen to paper on a four-year contract until 2030 for the La Liga giants, with an option for a further year.

He is expected to be joined at the Bernabeu by Dutch right-wing back Denzel Dumfries, who has also agreed to join Los Blancos on a similar deal, pending an official announcement.
