Chelsea have identified Brighton forward Joao Pedro as a key striker target as they continue to search for a new prolific frontman ahead of the new season.

They recently signed Ipswich striker Liam Delap for £30 million after triggering his relegation release clause last month, but are looking to add more firepower to enhance competition in that area of the squad.

Chelsea, who now boasts three young strikers in that department, including Nicholas Jackson, Liam Delap, and Marc Guiu, will be looking to add more fresh faces ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Conference League winners have recently been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s French forward Hugo Ekitike.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have identified Brighton’s £70 million-rated star Pedro as one of their key attacking targets and have kept the Brazilian in their transfer shortlist.

The club have reportedly made initial contact with Brighton over a potential move, with the 23-year-old tipped to leave the Amex Stadium this summer.

Fabrizio posted on his X (Twitter) page: “Understand Chelsea have Brighton’s João Pedro as one of the targets on their shortlist for this summer, highly appreciated. Initial contacts took place to be informed on situation, as João can leave this summer.

“Newcastle already approached Brighton this week.

Aside from Chelsea, Newcastle United are also keen on signing the Brazilian attacker.

Joao Pedro scored 10 goals in 27 Premier League games in 2024/25 season for Brighton

Pedro has long been admired by Eddie Howe, who wanted to sign him in 2022, as he is seen as a versatile forward option who can contribute in multiple positions.

The Selecao star scored 10 goals in 27 Premier League games in 2024/25 and is capable of playing on the left, as a 10, and as a central striker.

Enzo Maresca is looking to add more forwards to their roster after the club qualified for the Champions League this season.
