Liverpool have 'no plans' to bid for Alexander Isak

Liverpool are not expected to make a second offer to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs.

The Magpies have already rejected an opening offer from the Reds for Isak, who has informed the club that he wants to explore a move away this summer.

Newcastle want £150m for the Sweden international, and Liverpool’s offer falls below that figure.

Ben Jacobs posted on X: “Liverpool have no plans as it stands to bid again for Alexander Isak this window.

“Nature of #NUFC’s rebuttal means Liverpool will NOT follow up with a second offer.

“Regarded as futile unless Newcastle change their stance and contact Liverpool. Offer rejected was £110m.

“Terms with Isak not a problem.”

The 25-year-old has three years to run on his contract and as it stands, he and his camp do not want to commit, with Liverpool interested in making the Swede a British record signing.

Jacobs added: “No second bid currently being prepared. Liverpool will only revisit if Newcastle now offer clear encouragement which has not come to date.

“No counter made to the £110m, and no acknowledgement from Newcastle £150m (or any other number) is the asking price despite a feeling among Newcastle insiders they value Isak at this level.

“Newcastle want Isak to sign a new deal despite the fact the Swedish striker is pushing for a move away.”

Manager Eddie Howe said previously that he remains “confident” Alexander Isak will still be at the club at the start of the season.

“It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow with us but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him,” Howe said after their defeat by Celtic.

“The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn’t fair to him. But I’m confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window.

“I think it’s difficult for me to give 100% clarity on any player.

“Alex is happy at Newcastle. He loves the players he plays with, the staff, the team and I’ve never had any issue with him.”

“Yes, I’ve had discussions with him but that’s not abnormal. I respect a player’s career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he’s trained really well and I realise there’ll be noise around him.”
