Thomas Tuchel to extent england contract until 2028

Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel is set to extend his stay with the England national team on new terms amid links to Manchester United’s permanent managerial role in the summer.

Tuchel was handed an 18-month contract in January 2025 to oversee England’s World Cup campaign, to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada in the summer of 2026.

The former Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss is expected to sign a new contract to remain as England manager until 2028, putting to rest links with taking the Man United job after the World Cup, with his current deal with the FA due to expire after this summer’s tournament.

The 52-year-old tactician was the frontrunner on the Red Devils’ shortlist for their next permanent manager role, but he’s set to stay in the Wembley dugout beyond the World Cup.

According to reports, Tuchel has agreed to stay, and the FA is likely to confirm the news before the draw for the 2025/26 Nations League campaign at 5 pm on Thursday.

Tuchel’s contract extension will keep him in charge for England’s “home” European Championship in 2028, which the country is co-hosting alongside Wales, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland — with both semi-finals and the final scheduled at Wembley.

The German manager’s short tenure with England can be viewed as a successful one, after guiding a memorable World Cup qualification campaign, winning all eight matches in their group.

Tuchel’s England side bagged 22 goals in ten games, and didn’t concede a single goal themselves as they literally walked into another major tournament. They will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama in Group L.

England’s next fixtures are scheduled during the March international break, featuring friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, followed by two final warm-up games against New Zealand and Costa Rica before the start of their World Cup campaign.
